Abstract
Aim- to ascertain the key histological and immunochemical features of pterygium that favours recurrence and substantiate the clinico pathological value
Method- 41 eyes with both primary(group A= 28) and recurrent(group B= 13) cases excised and autografting done. The tissue specimens seperately evaluated by proper histopathlogy and immunochemical for P53 and Ki 67 positivity
Results- meticulous histopathological inspection of the both groups revealed features like stromal inflammation (87%)and fibrosis (51%), solar elastosis (35%) in greater amount in group B than A. points favouring are statistically significant (p <0.05) when comparing two groups. P53 and Ki 67 positivity also correctable with histological picture and it was seen that the latter is cost effective alternative Conclusion- the study emphasizes on the standard points of meticulous histopathologic analysis that can preclude expensive tests to establish recurrence of pterygium.
