Abstract
METHOD:Double blinded, randomized, prospective study in 236 (TPKE) &242 longitudinal(LPKE)subjects over 60 yrs ,with senile catarct of LOCS III&IV ,Phacosurgery performed by same surgeon using OZIL (for torsional ) and US probe( for longitudinal ) mode on infinity ,with follow up as pre op,day1,day7 and day28. Visual acuity specular study done over each visit by TOMEY400 noting endothelial cell density(ED),coefficient of variance(COV) and pachymetry (CCT)
RESULT:Subjects were matched in demographic parameter in both groups , visual acuity was significantly better over day 28 in TPKE group. Mean Endothelial cell density changes were 3.5% in TPKE and 6.11% in LPKE. Mean COV 12% for LPKE and 9.9% in TPKE and CCT changes were9.3% for LPKE and 7.04% in TPKE ON DAY 1 and significant diffrence on consecutive visits
CONCLUSION:Torsional method had better visual rehabilitaion, with lesser endothelial loss and lesser COV and CCT changes after phacoemulsification over 1 month follow up.
