Abstract
AIM:To study the effect of high heat on eye.
MATERIAL AND METHOD:Observational case study was done in 200 patients between age group of 30-50 years working in steel plant in high heat area examined for their reported symptoms.Patients with history of ocular surgery, trauma and previous history of any ocular disorder were excluded.Data was collected through pre tested questionnaire & ocular examination was done.
RESULT:48% patients reported dry eye,38% red eye,33% watering.Other eye problem reported where conjunctival inflammation,cataract,corneal changes,capsular delamination.61 patients of dry eye worked more than 10 year and 35 patients for less than 10 years. The frequency & severity of symptoms increased with duration of job.
CONCLUSION:Workers of steel industry are suffering from many eye problems which are attributed to high temperature and different types of radiation. Preventive measures like safety spectacles, face shield should be taken. Periodic examination should be done.
