Abstract
Conjunctival impression cytology in eyes post LASIK
Background: Conjunctival impression cytology(CIC) is useful investigating tool for analysing ocular surface disease. It is non invasive and yields reliable information about the area sampled with minimal discomfort to the patient. It is not routine investigation in tertiary rural care hospital
Aim : To study ocular surface changes in 20 eyes underwent LASIK using CIC in tertiary rural care hospital
Methodology: CIC specimen was obtained using Millipore filter paper (pore size 0.45 micron) from bulbar and inferotemporal conjunctiva adjacent to limbus. Slide was fixed in freshly prepared solution containing 3 parts acetone(100%), 1 part methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol (95%) for 4-6hrs . after fixation staining was done with hematoxyllin and eosin , Papanicolaou(PAP) and periodic acid Schiff (PAS) and specimen was graded according to cytological grading
Outcome
