Abstract
Purpose: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of DR and associated predictive factors of DR development among DM patients attending a tertiary health care center in north-east India.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out from March 2022 to August 2022 involving all patients diagnosed with DM seeking treatment in the center during the study period. Data was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis were done to identify predictors of DR.
Results: A total of 181 DM patients were included of whom 64 (35.4%) had DR. Duration of diabetes >10 years, male gender, high blood pressure, irregular medications, insulin therapy, and HBA1c >9 was significantly associated with increased risk of developing DR.
Conclusion: High risk factors can be used to screen DM patients to identify patients at high risk for DR. Frequent health check-up for glycemic control and health education is required.
