Abstract
Objective-To determine serum vit B12& homocysteine levels in patients with Retinal Vein Occlusion&find correlation between levels of serum vit B12&serum homocysteine levels&its effect on visual acuity&fundus findings
Materials&method–A cross sectional ,observational, comparative descriptive study of 35patients with RVO visiting tertiary care centre.
Results–Out of35 patients of RVO,24patients(69%)had raised homocysteine levels&low B12 levels&11 patients(31%)had normal levels.Out of 35 patients,19 -male&16-female showing no significant gender predominance;25patients had BRVO with 17 involving superotemporal,8involving inferotemporal arcade.10patients had CRVO.
Conclusion-Patients with no underlying systemic conditions, hyperhomocysteinemia &low B12 levels is the prime factor to study in patients with retinal vein occlusion&may serve as the only modifiable risk factor for preventing further damage in same eye&future involvement in other eye by maintaining normal serum homocysteine levels.
