Abstract
Aim- To elucidate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of AQ4Ab and MOG Ab in atypical optic neuritis in a tertiary eye centre.
Material and method : Records of 67 patients with atypical ON were reviewed . The following data were extracted: medical history, ocular examination, brain, orbital or spinal MRI ,autoimmune workup . The clinical findings , disease course, and outcomes were compared according to serostatus. Results; 11% ( 7/ 67 ) were positive for MOG antibodies and 9 %( 6/67) were positive for AQP4 antibodies. MOG positive ON had better visual outcome(p<.05) ,more recurrences (p<.05) than AQP4 positive ON. AQP4 positive ON were more likely to have spinal chord involvement(p<.05). Bilateral involvement with female preponderance was common to both(p>.05). Conclusion- MOG positive ON was more common than AQP4 positive ON. They have distinct phenotypes and outcomes.
