Abstract
Purpose: To describe the outcome of safety enhanced tarso-frontal sling surgery (SETFS)
for a spectrum of cases with complex ptosis.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was done of patients who underwent SETFS using 800-micron silicone. The indication for surgery was to clear the visual axis. Change in the amount of ptosis and ocular surface integrity were analyzed.
Results: Thirty-nine eyes of 25 patients with complex ptosis including CPEO (36%), motility restriction (20%), congenital ptosis with poor Bells (20%), blepharophimosis (8%) were included. Mean age was 32.8 ± 20.8 years and 68% were males. At a mean follow-up of 12.9 months, all had a stable clear visual axis. Mean increase in margin reflex distance was 2.9 ± 2 mm (p < 0.001). Recurrence of ptosis and exposure keratopathy was noted in 1 (4%) case each. Conclusion: SETFS provides a good functional outcome with minimal complications.
