Abstract
AIM: TO STUDY CLINICAL PROFILE OF LID INJURIES BECAUSE OF MECHANICAL TRAUMA.
METHODS: WE RETROSPECTIVELY COLLECTED DEMOGRAPHIC AND CLINICAL DATA OF ALL PATIENTS WITH EYELID LACERATION BETWEEN 2008-2022. DATA COLLECTED IN PRETESTED FORMAT & STATISTICAL ANALYSES DONE USING SPSS22.
RESULTS: A TOTAL OF 150 PATIENTS STUDIED FOR LID LACERATION WITH MEDIAN AGE 28 Y AND MEDIAN FOLLOW UP 31 DAYS. 56(37.3%) WERE FROM PAEDIATRIC AGE GROUP AND 22(14.7%) WERE TODDLERS (0-6), MALE PREPONDERANCE 77.3%, 54.7% IN RE, WHILE 52.7 % HAVE UPPER LID TEAR, LOWER LID TEAR IN 58 %, BOTH LID INVOLVEMENT IN 9.3%, CANALICULAR TEAR WAS IN 30 %, MOST WERE DUE TO ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT, BLOUSE HOOK RESPONSIBLE IN 19% TODDLERS. 56% UNDERWENT PRIMARY LID REPAIR, 17.4% CANALICULAR REPAIR, 9.9 % HAD ASSOCIATED INTRAOCULAR INJURIES.
CONCLUSION: LID INJURIES ARE COMMON WITH MECHANICAL INJURIES. ASSOCIATED WITH CANALICULAR INJURIES AND OTHER INTRA OCULAR AND INTRA ORBITAL INJURIES.
