Abstract

Having a worldwide distribution, ocular cysticercosis has variable clinical manifestations, common symptoms being decreased vision, pain and periocular swelling. Because of relatively unusual location of cyst and rare clinical presentation in young child, reporting of this case of isolated ocular cysticercosis becomes important.

OBJECTIVE: To report an unusual case of proptosis due to ocular cysticercosis in a 10-year old vegetarian male child who presented with difference in both eye size, with no other ocular or systemic complaints

CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient had mild protrusion of LE with underaction of left SR. He was diagnosed by MRI Brain and Orbit which showed well defined oval cystic lesion within SR/LPS at the insertion of SR. The patient was treated with oral Prednisolone and Albendazole, to which he showed a significant improvement.

CONCLUSION: Extraocular cysticercosis can be diagnosed by MRI and be treated medically with Steroid and Albendazole.
