Abstract
Pterygium is an ocular surface disorder characterised by fibroelastotic degeneration of the conjunctiva and subconjunctival tissue. Its overgrowth and extension on the cornea is known to disturb corneal topography leading to significant astigmatism and thus the visual acuity.
MATERIAL AND METHOD
34 eyes of 34 patients with grade 2 or more pterygium were enrolled for the study. After thorough pre operative evaluation of clinical symptoms, BCVA, keratometry, grading of pterygium patients were taken up for pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft. Follow up were done at 1week, 1month and 3month.
RESULTS
Among the 34 pts. 22 were male(M:F 1.83:1). Mean age was 35.6± 7.8years. There were significant decline in the keratometric readings reflecting as decrease in refractive cylinder from 4.20±1.60D to 2.00±1.80D postoperatively(p<0.05). CONCLUSION Pterygium surgery with conjuctival autograft significantly improves the corneal astigmatism in patients with pterygium.
