Abstract

Cataract and glaucoma are the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Prevalence of lens-induced glaucoma is high in our country in spite of modern health facilities- due to lack of awareness, illiteracy, and poverty in our rural-dominated population. 60 eyes with phacomorphic or phacolytic glaucoma attending from June 2021 to May 2022 were operated on and their visual acuity and IOP was assessed on day 7 and 30. There was a highly statistically significant improvement in vision seen after cataract surgery. Chi-square value 53.0429 and

p-value 0.00001in phacomorphic glaucoma and chi-square value of e 20.798 and p-value 0.000347 in phacolytic glaucoma. There was a statistically significant decrease in IOP in the pre and post-operative period. Chi-square value 33.756, p-value <.00001. To conclude, we found an increase in visual acuity and a decrease in IOP after cataract surgery in these patients.
