Abstract
To report an unusual case of intracorneal eyelash following traumatic lamellar corneal tear.
A 16 year old male following trauma to left eye presented with foreign body sensation, mild pain, redness & watering. On ocular examination Best Corrected Visual Acuity was 6/6 in both eyes, lamellar corneal tear noted from 6 O’clock to 5 O’clock position obliquely along with an eyelash in the corneal stroma & anterior chamber was quiet. On Anterior Segment OCT lamellar tear with mild corneal edema & hyperreflective structure with posterior shadowing corresponding to eyelash was noted. Subsequently under aseptic measures the eyelash was removed & medications started.
Though Intraocular foreign bodies are common after penetrating ocular injuries, cilia as a foreign body is rare condition & it is very unusual as an intracorneal foreign body. Our case needed minimal intervention; but to keep in mind, delay in intervention may lead to complication & can compromise quality of life.
