Abstract
PURPOSE: To evaluate type of etiology, clinical profile, outcome and treatment of traumatic uveitis
METHODS: This prospective observational study was undertaken for one year with 16 patients diagnosed as traumatic uveitis out of 308 uveitis cases attending the hospital and followed up after 12 months. Post-surgical cases were excluded from the study.
RESULTS: A total of 16 patients of traumatic uveitis were evaluated out of 308 uveitis cases and mean prevalence was 5.19%. Anterior uveitis was the most common diagnosis (6 out of 16).Patient age varied from14-43 years with mean age being 17 years. Most common etiology was injury with cricket ball (8/ 16 cases), followed by road traffic accidents. Most of the cases presented in the first week of trauma (11/16 cases)
CONCLUSIONS: Results of uveitis are favorable where primary repairs were made and where steroids were instituted. It is important to identify actual etiology of traumatic uveitis; as such knowledge will dictate proper therapy.
