Abstract
Trypan blue staining of the posterior capsule or vitreous previously reported in literature has been most commonly attributed to cases with zonular compromise either due to trauma or previous surgery or psuedoexfoliation.
We intend to present a case of trypan blue staining of posterior capsule and vitreous in a case with neither any history of any ocular trauma or surgery in the past nor any signs of zonular compromise on preoperative examination. This case highlights the possibility of vitreous staining of trypan blue in an eye withi ntact zonules.
Ophthalmic surgeons should be aware of this unusual complication resulting in poor visualization during surgery and a theoretically increased chance of intra-operative complications and should employ preventative strategies.
