Abstract
AIM : TO STUDY VISUAL OUTCOME OF IOL RELATED COMPLICATIONS IN CATARACT SURGERY.
METHOD: THIS IS A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY WHERE WE ENROLLED ALL CATARACTS OPERATED BETWEEN 2008-2022 AND COMPLICATION AND ITS REPAIR AND ALL POST-OPERATIVE DATA COLLECTED IN PRETESTED ONLINE FORMAT FROM EMR AND ANALYSIS DONE BY SPSS22.
RESULTS: OUR COHORT INVOLVED 3513 CASES. 1624(46.2%) F, 1885(53.7%)M, PRIMARY SURGERY WAS PHACO IN 373(10.6%) AND SICS 3140(89.4%). WE DOCUMENTED IOL RELATED COMPLICATIONS 100(2.8%), OUT OF WHICH 26(26%) WERE IOL DROP, REMAINING WERE IOL MALPOSITION. OUT OF 26 WITH IOL DROP, 8(30.7%) IMPROVED TO >6/12 AFTER SECONDARY SURGERY(P=0.02),OUT OF 74 WITH IOL MALPOSITION 29(39.1%) IMPROVED TO >6/12 (P=0.00).
CONCLUSION: CATARACT SURGERIES DONE BY TRAINEE SURGEONS CAUSED COMPLICATIONS DURING IOL INSERTION, INTERVENTIONS DONE BY VITREO RETINAL SURGEONS MADE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN FINAL VISUAL OUTCOME.
