Abstract
PCO being the commonest postoperative complication of cataract surgery, causing significant visual symptoms, when involves central visual axis. Square edge IOL being one way to prevent PCO. To study posterior capsular opacification occurrence and ND: YAG capsulotomy rate in patients implanted with square and non-square edge IOL in manual SICS. This is a Randomized controlled study. Patients with senile cataract underwent manual SICS by single operating surgeon. Square and non-square edge IOL were implanted randomly. Routine preoperative assessment was done. Patients were followed up postoperatively for 7 days, 1,3,6 months. The corrected distance visual acuity and slit lamp examination was done on every visit for PCO evaluation. Unpaired t test will be used for comparisons of PCO occurrence. Occurrence of PCO and need for Nd:Yag capsulotomy is higher in Non square edge IOL. Occurrence of PCO and thus Nd:Yag capsulotomy rate can be reduced by implanting square edge IOL.
