Abstract
Aim: to present a case series describing clinical features & treatment outcome in patients of shield ulcer
Method: medical records of patients diagnosed & treated as Shield ulcer in our hospital from december2020 to march2021was reviewed and follow up for a period of 6months.
Result: 6 cases all male aged between 8-25year presented with bilateral photophobia and redness &ropy discharge of eyes commencing from early childhood of life intermittently.Diagnosis of Shield ulcer made on the basis of slit lamp finding of giant cobblestone like papillae &a fluorescent stain positive epithelial defect in paracentral cornea of both the eyes. Scraping from the ulcer came negative for KOH mount, gram stain.Treatment with topical olopatadine, tacrolimus & lubricating agent,cycloplegics was advised.on follow up the patient showed relief.
Conclusion: Shield ulcer is a rare Presentation.So should be kept in mind as a differential diagnosis of unexplained photophobia and red eye.
