Abstract
Aim-To determine if there is benefit of adjuvant chemical cautery in treatment of infective Keratitis
Materials & Methods- A series of 45 consecutive smear positive infective corneal ulcer not responding to the conventional medications studied from Aug 2020- Jun 2022 in tertiary centre.Combined therapy with topical antibiotics targeting organism along with other medications used in infectious Keratitis & adjunctive treatment with chemical cautery by 100% carbolic acid given.Patient’s symptoms,size of corneal ulcer & epithelial defect,infiltrates and laboratory report of culture and smear were evaluated.Results-Symptomatic improvement was seen in 9 cases on 3rd day,16 cases on 4th day and by end of week total 32 (71.1%) cases.Clinical signs improved in 25(55.5%) and negative flourescein 23(51.1%) cases by the 8th day.5 cases were advised for keratoplasty.Conclusion-chemical cautery application along with topical antibiotics gave convincing results in healing of infective Keratitis.
