Abstract
Purpose:To report clinical characteristics and antibiotic sensitivity pattern of Pseudomonas keratitis.
Methods:Retrospective review of culture-proven Pseudomonas keratitis patients who presented to a tertiary eye care center in north India.Patients with mixed infections with Pseudomonas as one of the pathogens were also included.
Results:Medical records of 157 patients of pseudomonas keratitis were reviewed.Median age of patients was 57.2 years.History of corneal trauma was present in 41.40 %.64.33% were male.Hypopyon was present in 37.57%.91.72% patient were from rural population.Surgical intervention was required in 72.61 % cases.Surgical re-intervention was done in 71.33 %.Colistin was found to be highly sensitive(98.08%), followed by imipenem(56.05%)and tobramycin(48.40%).
Conclusion:Older age groups of rural population were most commonly affected by pseudomonas keratitis. Surgical intervention rate and re intervention rate is higher in cases of pseudomonas keratitis patients.
