Abstract

Aim of study-To analyze the central corneal thickness (CCT) changes during the menstrual cycle in indian women. Material and methods-A prospective observational clinical study was performed at a tertiary care centre in North India with a total of 126 women between the ages of 18-45 years after taking proper consent and their central corneal thickness (CCT) was measured using an ultrasound pachymeter in the beginning of (1st-3rd day), during ovulation (14th-16th day),and during the end (28th-33rd day) of their cycle. Results- The mean CCT of both eyes was maximum during the ovulation period ,followed by the end of the cycle and was found to be least during the beginning of the cycle. Conclusion-The menstrual history of women should also be considered before refractive surgery workup, contact lens fitting and glaucoma evaluation as it may change the expected diagnosis and result.
