Abstract
Aim- To compare mitomycin C and amniotic membrane graft in external dacryocystorhinostomy
Patient and method-This was a prospective double -masked, randomized, trial study ,patients were selected and classified into two groups The first group was treated using dried lyophilized amniotic membrane graft ,the second group underwent intraoperative MMC (0.2mg/ml) application for 5 minutes in the standard DCR procedure.Final outcome at one year of follow-up was used to define success of the surgery. Both subjective decrease in watering and objective patency on syringing were assessed.
Result- All patients showed 100% subjective and objective success rate at follow-up but at the end of follow-up the success rate decreased to 97.92% in the first group and 91.67% in the second group.
Conclusion-
The use of amniotic membrane with EX-DCR was effective in both improving the results and increasing the survival of the ostium between the sac and the nasal cavity, with no added complications.
