Abstract
Aim- To evaluate for the efficacy of orbital partial dacryoadenectomy in patients with persistent epiphora and effect of treatment on quality of life. Methodology- This is a prospective interventional study. Patients with refractory epiphora underwent preoperative assessment with Munk score, dry eye evaluation and CT orbit. Partial orbital dacryoadenectomy was performed under local anesthesia followed by assessment of epiphora by Munk score, tear film height (TFH) by slit lamp and by ASOCT.
Results- Median age of five patients enrolled was 58 years. Median follow up was 7 months. Average reduction in Munk score was 55%. Average preoperative TFH on ASOCT was 1821 μm and postoperatively after 3 months average TFH on ASOCT was 415 μm. None of the patients developed sign and symptoms of dry eye. Quality of life measured by GBI improved in all the patients (average score- 75). Conclusion- Partial orbital dacryoadenectomy could be a novel procedure for patients with refractory epiphora.
