Abstract
Purpose- To compare anxiety and pain score in Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) between the first and second eye surgery.
A prospective study of consecutive patients eligible for LASIK in both eyes was performed between April 2020 and March 2021 simultaneously in a single setting using Schwind Amaris excimer laser. Preoperative anxiety was evaluated using the validated six-question APAIS (range 6-30) and pain using a Visual analog score ranging from 0 (no pain) to 10 (unbearable pain). Hemodynamics with intraoperative heart rate were also monitored.
Results- The APAIS score comparison between the two groups was insignificant and the pain score in the second eye was experienced more compared to the first eye with p<0.001. The patients also showed a significant intraoperative change in systolic and diastolic blood pressure with p<0.001. Conclusion-Pain experienced in second eye was more compared to the first eye with significant change in haemodynamics during second eye surgery.
