Abstract
Aim
Assessment of stress in surgeons performing phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia .
Methodology
Tertiary care centre based Prospective Observational study.
Recruitment of patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria was done.
Measurement of blood pressure and heart rate using a digital blood pressure machine of operating ophthalmic surgeons was done.
Comparison of baseline readings with readings of preoperative ,intraoperative and postoperative readings
Result
we found statistically significant increase in SBP,DBP and MAP during intraoperative and post operative period.
Conclusion
Stress can be attributed with cataract surgery through phacoemulsification technique at various stages of surgery.
This study can be a quality improvement measure by which we can prevent or reduce stress which can cause low surgical outcome and occupational hazard
