Abstract
Stereopsis is the perception of the relative depth of objects on the basis of binocular disparity. It reflects the slight difference in images presented to each eye and maybe measured for distance and near.
Judging depth is important in surgery, more so in those surgeries which are so fine that they require microscopic viewing. Although there are several monocular cues that permit depth perception, stereo acuity has been singled out as a possible predictor of surgical ability. However, it is not clear whether presbyopia affects near stereoacuity. To help answer this, we aimed to evaluate near stereo acuities and correlate it with unaided and aided near visual acuity in surgeons performing microscopic surgeries in a tertiary care institution of Central India.
