Abstract
PURPOSE- To demonstrate the effectiveness of total muscle transplantation procedure as the primary surgical procedure in cases of large angle deviation
OBJECTIVE-This study is a case series of 3 patients with deviation >70 PD who had undergone muscle transplantation surgery as the primary surgery on a single, non-dominant squinting eye.
METHODS- 3 patients having a deviation of >70 PD on pre-operative squint evaluation were evaluated on Day 1 and Day 30 post -operatively after having undergone muscle transplantation procedure as the primary procedure on a single ,non-dominant squinting eye.
RESULTS- Post-operatively on day 1 and day 30 case 1 and case 2 were found to be orthotropic while case 3 was found to have a deviation of 10 PD.
CONCLUSION- muscle transplantation procedure on a single, non-dominant eye can be used to safely and effectively correct a large angle deviation thus avoiding bilateral surgery and surgery related complications to the other eye.
