Abstract
Traumatic macular hole(TMH) is a well recognized condition after blunt ocular trauma. There is an ongoing debate regarding the need for vitrectomy or observation for its management. A prospective interventional study was carried out to study the anatomical and functional outcomes of pediatric TMH with current treatment guidelines. 14 eyes were taken in our study and complete ophthalmic examination was done along with Spectral domain OCT. 3 eyes went for spontaneous closure and others underwent pars plana vitrectomy with inverted ILM peeling and endotamponade. Main outcome measures were post operative visual acuity at 3 months, anatomical closure and its association with base diameter and mean linear diameter of the hole. About 22% of cases went for spontaneous closure in mean duration of about 50 days from trauma. Base diameter is inversely proportional to the visual outcome of the surgery. We need not hurry for surgical intervention but newer techniques has improved surgical outcome.
