Abstract
a) Background and objectives
To examine ocular parameters like ECD, CCT & IOP preoperatively and postoperatively at 1 week, 1 month & 3 months
b) Methods
Patients undergoing vitrectomy were selected and divided into 4 groups according to the lens status and the endotamponade used. All the patients underwent specular microscopy, pachymetry , and IOP measurement preoperatively and postoperatively at one week, one month, and 3 months. The preoperative values of these parameters are compared with the postoperative values.
c) Results
There was a significant decrease in the ECD at all visits in all four groups. An increase in IOP was observed in patients with silicon oil as endotamponade.
d) Conclusion
The decrease in ECD was comparatively less in phakic groups as compared with pseudophakic groups. This implies that natural lens has protective effect over the corneal endothelium. IOP rise was noted more in cases where SO was used as endotamponade.
