Abstract
Diabetic dyslipidemia is extremely common in 70% diabetic patients.It poses a significant risk factor for atherosclerotic diseases & other vascular diseases. Aim: To determine effect of statins in progression of diabetic retinopathy.Methods: Prospective study; Two groups of T2DM without any retinopathy were formed. Group 1 was given statin along with OHA & Group 2 was on OHA only. Fundus was examined at one & two year. Results: While no significant difference in gender was seen, most affected age group was 61-70 years. Diabetic retinopathic changes were more earlier observed in group 2 patients & was of higher grade. Conclusion: Assessment of lipid profile along with blood sugar and BP should be done for better treatment outcomes.
