Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the incidence of astigmatism induced by Vernal keratoconjunctivitis. METHOD: This was a prospective study done on 54 patients(38 M and 16 F) suffering from VKC attending the OPD from July 2021 to June 2022. Their mean age ranged from 5-16 yrs. Slit lamp biomicroscopy and corneal topography was done on each of them. RESULT: Out of 54 children suffering from VKC, 35 pts(64.8%) developed astigmatism after having VKC. We found a male preponderance(25 i.e. 71.4%). Majority of the pts i.e. 26 pts(74.28%) had irregular astigmatism and 9 pts(25.7%) had regular astigmatism. 19 pts(35%) did not have astigmatism. CONCLUSION: There is a higher incidence of astigmatism in VKC patients compared to general population.
