Abstract
AIM: To study RNFL changes in pregnant women with Gestational Hypertension
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Observational case study was done for 1 yr on 35 pregnant women diagnosed with gestational hypertension. Peripapillary RNFLT was measured at 1st visit, 28 weeks and 2 months postpartum by SD-OCT. Patients with preexisting retinal diseases, chronic hypertension and other pregnancy complications that would affect the study outcome were excluded.
RESULTS: Out of 35, 28 with mild to moderate and 7 with severe preeclampsia were enrolled. Mean peripapillary RNFLT increased significantly from 1ST visit to 28 weeks in both the groups with p<0.05. The highest increase in mean RNFLT occurred in severe preeclampsia from 93±9 to 112±23 µm. 2 severe preeclampsia patients landed in eclampsia. CONCLUSION: SD-OCT should be used as a routine screening tool for all patients with Pregnancy-induced Hypertension.
