Abstract
Purpose-to assess changes in choroidal thickness in type 2 diabetic patients with diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema using spectral domain optical coherence tomography
Method – this is a prospective cohort study. The study population included 64 patients diagnosed with diabetetic retinopathy who had age ≥ 45 years . After obtaining informed and written consent, data regarding, profile of patients, his/her medical history, symptoms, and treatment history were recorded in a pre-designed and per-test proforma. Data collected were analyzed by appropriate statistical tests .
Results- The results of our study show that diabetic patients with diabetic retinopathy with or without diabetic macular edema have a greater mean choroidal thickness
Conclusions- The change in choroidal thickness at various stages of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema showed that it plays a potential role in pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.
