Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the incidence of different grades and types of posterior capsular opacification following cataract surgery and whether or not cystoid macular odema is present leading to poor visual outcome rather than or along with PCO and take a decision on Nd:YAG capsulotomy on the basis of visual acuity improvement.
Methods: Patients with cataracts (50 cases) who underwent SICS or phacoemulsification with PCIOL implantation (January 2021 to July 2022) and developed posterior capsular opacification within 2 years, were enrolled. All the subjects completed a comprehensive ocular examination, slit lamp biomicroscopy and OCT-FMT.
Results: Pearl/proliferative type of PCO can be photodisrupted easily and with good visual outcome but Fibrous type is slightly difficult to deal with, requiring more energy and relatively poor visual outcome. Subclinical CME was ruled out which can add to poor visual outcome.
