Abstract
70 eyes with VH secondary to PDR were randomized to 2 groups, group A undergoing PPV+ILM peeling(ILMP) & group B undergoing only PPV. Both groups had normal foveal contour on intra- op OCT. The mean pre-op visual acuity(VA) in group A was 1.3543 logMar & in group B was 1.2029 logMar. At 6th month, mean VA in group A was 0.6543 logMar & in group B was 0.8343(p>0.005). At 6th month ERM was present in 11.4% eyes in group A & in 31.4% eyes in group B respectively(p 0.029). At 6th month mean CMT in group A was 291µ & in group B was 372.22µ(p value <0.001). In group B, re-surgeries were required in 25.7% eyes, in 14.3% eyes & in 5.7% eyes at 1st,3rd & 6th month respectively. At 6th month none of the eyes in group A required re-surgeries. There were no significant differences between groups in terms of DME development, need for anti-VEGF injections. ILMP at primary surgery for PPV gives better results in terms of reduced ERM formation, macular thickness & number of re-surgeries
