Abstract
PURPOSE: To determine the safety and efficacy of administering intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injection in patients with chalazion.
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective clinical study in a tertiary care hospital of Kolkata.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 120 patients with chalazion were selected as cases,taking proper consent,after clinical and ophthalmological examination,under a relevant inclusion-exclusion criteria. Intralesional injection of Triamcinolone acetonide(40mg/ml) was given aseptically and patients followed up at 2-weekly intervals.
RESULTS: 65% females (78 cases),35% males (42 cases) had chalazia.70% (84 cases) resolved in 2 weeks,80% (96 cases) in 4 weeks completely. 20% (24 cases) did not decrease in size by 4 weeks and got a second TA injection.3 cases recurred after resolving. 6 cases (5%) failed to respond at two doses.
CONCLUSION: Intralesional injection of Triamcinolone Acetonide is simple,fast,less cumbersome daycare treatment option in chalazion with minimal side effects.
