Abstract
INTRODUCTION- P63 protein marker has been identified as a homolog of tumor suppressor protein p 53. It is located on chromosome 3Q27 and is capable of inducing apoptosis, cell cycle arrest and suppress metastasis. Primary adenocarcinoma of lid shows positivity for P63 but is absent in metastatic lesion.
MATERIALS AND METHOD – A 68-year female presented to us with ulcerative mass in right lower lid near lateral canthus for 6 months. Lesion was painless progressive. Excision biopsy was performed with 4mm margin
RESULT- Histopathological evaluation suggests adenocarcinoma of sweat gland but on immunohistochemistry it was P63 gene negative, giving impression of metastatic lesion. Subsequently on workup for primary site, we found a mass in left hilum in high resolution CT scan of lungs and pancreatic mass (primary tumor) on contrast enhanced CT abdomen.
CONCLUSION – we emphasize the crucial role of tumor protein P63 in differentiating primary vs metastatic adenocarcinoma
