Abstract
Introduction – George Coats described spectrum of ocular findings like unilateral retinal vascular abnormalities & exudation in young males. The chief presenting features are decreased vision,retinal telangiectasia, exudation & RD. Methods-series of 4 cases
aged 8,9,12 and 14 years between May -July 22 were included. Patient evaluated after detailed history for VA,IOP,Anterior segment & funduscopy.Disease extent was classified into 3 zones macula Zone 1; mid-periphery Zone 2 & peripheral fundus Zone 3.Conclusion -On an average, Indian patients present at least 5 yrs later than their Western counterparts to an Ophthalmologist (mean age:16.5 yrs vs 11 yrs) with an average duration of symptoms of 2.5 + 2.8 years. While most of the current reports on Coats’ disease have been from the Western world, there have hardly been any detailed accounts from the Indian subcontinent.This study is an attempt to throw some light about this condition in the Indian/ south Asian context.
