Abstract
AIM: This retrospective study investigates the epidemiological and clinical aspects of occupational trauma. Eye injuries at workplace are major causes of morbidity, socio-economic damage, and disability, despite well publicized standards for industrial eye protection. Material and methods: 224 eye injuries were registered as occupational accidents between Jan 2019 and July 2022 from construction site situated in the premises of our medical college. Out of which, 140 cases were analyzed retrospectively per random. Results: The 5 most common injuries of 140 patients (M/F = 140/0; mean age 36 yrs. (24 yr-48 yr.) were related to corneal foreign body injuries 118 (84 %), Abrasion 16 (11.4%), Blunt injury with hyphaema 4 (2.85%), Penetrating injury 1 injuries (0.71%) and lid injury 1(0.71%). No patient was wearing protective glasses at the time of injury. Conclusion: Protective glasses during work must be made mandatory.
