Abstract

Corneal bee sting have been rarely described in the literature that can lead to potentially devastating complications (ocular anaphylaxis) including keratitis, corneal opacity, uveitis, iris atrophy, secondary glaucoma and cataract. Treatment is usually aimed to minimizing the toxic and immunologic response. However, due to the rarity of the injury, there is no established clinical guideline for the management of the patients. Early surgical intervention which include removal of bee sting and high dose of steroid along with topical antibiotic, steroid and cycloplegic is main stay of treatment.

Here we report a series of four corneal bee sting case. After primary removal of sting from cornea , two eyes had good visual prognosis with medical therapy alone (Best corrected visual acuity ˃6/24). Two eyes had poor visual prognosis with medical therapy and required penetrating keratoplasty. Even after keratoplasty one eye graft failed due to severe anaphylactic reaction.
