Abstract
Purpose: To assess the MicroPulse P3 (MP3) transscleral laser therapy in patients with refractory glaucoma and our preliminary results at 1 week and 1 month postoperatively.
Methods: IRIDEX MP3 laser cyclophotocoagulation was performed in 7 eyes of 7 patients. Each eye received treatment of 2500mW for 80s over the superior and inferior hemisphere, avoiding the 3 and 9 o’ clock hours.
Results: Mean intraocular pressure reduction was more than 50% at 1 week and was maintained at 1 month. The procedure was safe in all cases and effective in 86% (6 out of 7) patients. No loss of visual acuity was noticed after the procedure. No significant inflammation, discomfort, or pain was reported. There were no complications like hypotony and phthisis bulbi.
Conclusion: MP3 transscleral cyclophoocoagulation represents an innovation in cyclophotocoagulation, which is non-destructive, repeatable, and non-invasive. However, long-term outcomes will prove its safety and efficacy in the future.
