Abstract
Purpose of study-To compare the effect of 20% vs 50 % autologous serum(AS) drops in the treatment of severe dry eye(SDE).
Material and Methods- A prospective double-blind study was carried out on SDE patients. The AS 20% and 50 % consisted of 22 & 25 eyes respectively. Each group was treated for 12weeks and Schirmer test(ST),Tearfilm Breakup Time(TBUT),Ocular Surface Disease Index Score(OSDI),OXFORD staining score(SS) were evaluated.Student’s T test was used for statistical analysis.
Result-Demographic features of both groups were similar(p>0.05). The baseline value of all parameters including OSDI,ST, SS and TBUT of two groups were comparable. After 12weeks of therapy, on intergroup comparison of AS 20% & AS 50% there was no significant difference in OSDI(P=0.057) but ST(p=0.002), TBUT(p=0.014),SS(p=0.045) showed statistically significant improvement.
Conclusion-We concluded that AS20% & 50% provided similar symptomatic relief. Also 50% was more superior in improving TBUT, SS and ST.
