Abstract
We analyse the causes of VI amongst pts coming for the handicap certificate and its application in eye health planning.A retrospective data analysis of medical records of553pt who had applied for the handicap certificate.BCVA< 20/60to20/120in better eye was included in VI Cat I&BCVA20/200 or less is blindness categoryII toIV.Data was analysed using SSPE software.The prevalence of male pts was higher than that of females, majority of them belonged to age group of16to45years,60.03%pts had mild VI,10.66%pts had moderate VI;29.29%pts had sever VI to blindness,over all phthisis was the most common cause followed by CO and Amblyopia.handicap registers are useful for the rehabilitation of visually impaired individuals as well as to assess the pattern of blindness in particular area.The most common etiological factors causing VI in our study are preventable so we propose the empowerment of the health delivery system for early detection of amblyogenic factors and its timely treatment .
