Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the association of CRP as a separate risk factor in retinal vein occlusion(RVO).
Methods: A total of 100 patients, 50 patients (diagnosed with RVO) & 50 healthy controls were included in our study. After comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation and taking all clinical, demographical and laboratory CRP value dataset were compared in retinal vein occlusion group and the control group.
Results: The mean age of patients was 57±16 years (male 62% & female 38 %) in retinal vein occlusion group. The mean CRP level is 13.85 mg/dl [SD±9.61] in retinal vein occlusion group and 6.07 mg/dl [SD±5.47] in control group, with >10mg/dl is related to risk for developing vascular disease. CRP level were significantly higher in patients with retinal vein occlusion group compared to control group (p<0.0005). Conclusion: Higher CRP may be used as an associated predictive tool for identifying risk for retinal vein occlusion. Keywords: C reactive protein, retinal vein occlusion.
