Abstract
Objective: To assess the spectrum of corneal diseases with systemic involvement presenting to the cornea clinic of a tertiary eye care facility in Eastern India.
Methods: The cohort was derived from the cornea clinic data of the institute over 1 year (15th September 2020- 14th September 2021).
Results: A total of 26 patients with proven systemic diseases were identified. 4 cases of primary Sjogren syndrome, 5 cases of secondary Sjogren syndrome secondary to RA, 3 cases of SJS sequelae, 1 case of MIRM, 2 cases of mixed connective tissue disease, 3 cases of ocular cicatricial pemphigoid with systemic features and 1 each of GVHD, systemic sclerosis, Blau syndrome, dermatomyositis, keratomalacia, Wegener’s granulomatosis, AML, and exposure keratopathy in a case of frontoethmoid mucocele were noted. The clinical features at the presentation were noted.
Conclusion: A wide range of diseases present with features consistent with dry eyes. Subtle corneal clues can suggest systemic diagnosis.
