Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is the most widespread disease affecting 425 million people worldwide. Cataracts arise early in diabetic patients as compared to nondiabetic patients. We compared 50 eyes of diabetics with 50 eyes of nondiabetics and studied their macular vascular density changes using OCTA after phacoemulsification with foldable IOL. Patients were followed up after 1 week,1 month, and 3 months and their macular vascular density changes were evaluated. SCP increased significantly from 38.47 ± 4.37% at baseline to 44.96 ± 4.52% at 3 months after surgery only in the diabetic group (P < 0.05). to conclude, this is suggestive of progression of diabetic retinopathy post cataract surgery.
