Abstract
AIM:To evaluate cycloplegic effects of cyclopentolate and atropine in hyperopic children, campare the possible side effects of them find out the correlation between increasing age & change in difference in cycloplegic refraction Method: Study of 100 patient with hyperopia without strabismus had age between 3-8 years in this crossover study we compare the retinoscopic refraction after both cyclopentolate and atropine Results: It was found that there was no significant difference in the cycloplegic refraction between atropine and cyclopentolate. we noted that Cyclopentolate safety profile is better than atropine. Difference between atropine and cyclopentolate refraction varies from 0.25 D to 1D.Maximum difference seen with patient having greater degree of hypermetropia. In addition we observed that as the age progresses the difference in cycloplegic refraction between atropine and cyclopentolate goes on decreasing which might be suggestive of decrease in accommodation as age progresses
