Abstract
2 groups were randomly alloted with Cyclosporine 0.1% in 1st group and prednisolone acetate 1% in the 2nd. Each group comprising of 15 patients that were followed every 2 weekly for 3 months.
In the 1st group with cyclosporine 0.1%, 8 patients (53.33 %) achieved resolution of stromal edema within next 2 months, 7 patients (46.66 %) achieved resolution after 3 months, with residual corneal scarring present in almost every case. In the 2nd group with prednisolone acetate 1%, 10 of them (66.66 %) achieved resolution in stromal edema within next 2 months, 5 patients (33.33 %) within the next 3 months with residual corneal scarring present in 73.33 % at the end of 3 months.
Hence our study concluded that prednisolone acetate 1% is better than cyclosporine 0.1% in terms of faster recovery and lesser residual scarring in treating stromal keratitis but due to short duration of the study, recurrence of the disease couldn’t be commented upon.
