Abstract
Background:The purpose of this study was to compare success rate of conventional DCR with bicanalicular intiubation and DCR with mitomycin C.
Materials and methods:work was done on cases of chronic dacryocystitis,28 patients was selected and divided into two groups.
a)Group 1:Mitomycin was used intraoperatively
b)Group2:Mitomycin was not used
Evaluation:Parients were followed over a period of 6 months ,subjectively and objectively by syringing,forced dye test and tear meniscus height.
Results:28 cases randomised into 2 groups
Group1:bicanalicular DCR with mitomycin c
Group2:control group in which mitomycin not used
success rate of 92.86 percent was observed in both groups ,no significant advantage of mitomycin c in group 1 except some intra and post operative advantages.
Failed 2 cases in each: due to tube displacement.
Conclusion:It has been found that patient in mitomycin c group were more symptom free than conventional group but not statistically significant.
