Abstract

ROP screening is must in premature babies. It is neglected many a times .Moreover it is cumbersome to attend NICU and do indirect Ophthalmoscopy in each premature baby and note down the details on paper. We have come out with a novel model which can be adopted across the world to combat blindness due to ROP. ‘Aarambh ROP Screening Project’ comprises 2 retina specialists 1 pediatric ophthalmologist.With the help of Indigenous Forus 3 Nethra Neo Camera ROP screening is performed in eight districts of Maharashtra (India) including Government & Private NICU’S. ‘Tele-ROP Screening Model’ is utilized to diagnose and if required treatment is offered in ROP cases. Around 5900 Babies have been screened in last 48Months. 275 Babies were given appropriate treatment in the form of Laser or Anti-VGEF Injection. This PPP has been found successful and proved a novel option to be adopted across the world to curb ROP blindness especially in developing countries.
